Why are industrial gates important?

When we talk of industrial gates, of course we’re talking about gates used by businesses on commercial properties, but a better description of these types of gates would be industrial security gates. And security is the main reason why industrial gates are important, and why they’re an essential element to any commercial property, both for the protection of company property, and more importantly, the staff.

High-quality steel, wooden or aluminium industrial gates not only create an effective deterrent to would-be burglars but also allow you to put in place a highly secure and modern access control system. A decent access control system for your industrial gate could be one of several systems, including:

  • Audio Entry or Video Entry
  • A Wireless Entry System
  • A GSM Entry System or BT Entry System
  • An Access Control Key FOB

And, once in place, your access control system will give you the ability to control who enters your commercial property, and when they’re permitted, whilst also providing a record of how many people are on the property at any one time.

Where are industrial gates used?

The short answer to this question is pretty much any commercial property, from the very small to the very large, use industrial gates, including

  • Factories
  • Office complexes
  • Car parks
  • Airports
  • Warehouses
  • Supermarkets
  • Schools and colleges
  • Transport depots
  • Military bases
  • Border control facilities
  • Storage units

And, as explained above, when each of these commercial properties has an industrial gate with an access control system, security is improved, as is how staff, visitors or pupils etc. come and go.

What are the different types of industrial gates?

Depending on the type of commercial property you have and the type of access you require, your choice of industrial gate could be one of three types, including:

  • Industrial Sliding Gates - This type of industrial gate is suitable for all sorts of properties, as long as the ground where the gate is installed is solid enough to install the tracks required for the sliding gate operation.

The main benefits of industrial sliding gates are that they don’t require any swing room, they’re easy to automate and easy to manually operate, even by those with limited upper body movement or strength.

  • Industrial Swing Gates – Industrial swing gates, as the name suggests, are your classic hinged, swinging gate. Constructed from various materials including wood, steel or aluminium, this type of gate is suitable for most industrial properties.

Like an industrial sliding gate, an industrial swing gate is simple to automate, and manually operate, and also has the added benefit of being easy to install and easy to service or maintain, preferably by a professional gate engineer.

  • Industrial Cantilever Gates – For those who might not know, a cantilever gate, industrial or domestic is a type of sliding gate, but instead of having tracks in the ground, the sliding mechanism is located at the top of the gate.

This design of this type of gate gives the industrial cantilever gate the unique benefit of being able to be installed in most commercial properties, particularly those where the ground may not be solid, such as an outdoor festival location.
